45 Hens and Roosters discovered in Philadelphia Rowhome
On August 13th, our team responded to a call about approximately 45 hens and roosters living inside a Philadelphia row home. Disturbingly, there were clear signs of cockfighting — including several “dressed” roosters whose combs had been cut and have been prepped for fighting.
We’re not law enforcement and can’t speak to any charges, but we hope this case is taken seriously by the federal authorities. Animal fighting is both illegal and harmful, and we’re glad these birds are now safe with us.
The hens and 3 roosters have gone to Last Chance Animal Rescue for placement, and we are still be for homes for the 11 healthy roosters who have not been altered for fighting. Sadly, 19 roosters who were trained and altered for fighting cannot be placed safely and unfortunately had to be humanely euthanized.
