July 20, 2026 – Philadelphia, PA – Every pet deserves the chance to be loved and safe, tucked in a loving home. This summer, as shelters across the country face the height of kitten season, ACCT Philly is partnering with PetSmart Charities® to help more pets find families during PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, taking place July 20–29 at three local PetSmart stores, giving families the opportunity to meet pets of all ages, breeds, and personalities looking for loving homes.
Late spring and summer mark, “kitten season,” the time of year when animal shelters see a significant increase in vulnerable newborn kittens and nursing cats who need care, comfort and loving homes. Adult cats, dogs, puppies and other small pets may also be waiting longer for adoption as shelters work to make room for the youngest animals in need.
Visitors to the adoption events can meet adoptable cats and dogs, spend time getting to know them, and speak with ACCT Philly staff and volunteers to find the right match for their home and lifestyle.
“Every adoption makes a lifesaving difference,” said Sarah Barnett, Executive Director at ACCT Philly. “When someone chooses to adopt from ACCT Philly, they are giving one animal a loving home while creating space and resources for another pet in need. We are grateful to partner with PetSmart Charities to help more Philadelphia-area families discover the incredible animals waiting for homes.”
All adopted pets leave ACCT Philly microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated as age appropriate, dewormed, and treated with flea prevention. These essential veterinary services would typically cost a Philadelphia dog owner more than $500, making adoption an incredible value in addition to saving a life.
