ACCT Philly is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider, serving the City of Philadelphia by contract. ACCT Philly manages the city’s animal shelter facility in North Philadelphia handling nearly 18,000 animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually. ACCT Philly is open each and every day of the year for pet adoptions.

ACCT Philly’s mission is to provide shelter, care and life saving efforts for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals and protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Philadelphia, providing a benefit to all of the citizens of the City regardless of race or economic status.

The Animal Care Attendant provides compassionate, attentive care to the animals at ACCT Philly at all times. They have primary responsibility for ensuring the well-being of animals at ACCT by providing a clean, healthy environment, nutritious food, and enrichment and activity. The ACA uses a low stress approach to help animals have as good an experience in ACCT’s care as possible.

The Animal Protection Officer (APO), will drive a vehicle to patrol streets, respond to requests for service concerning animals and perform routine and complex public safety work in the enforcement of animal control and licensing ordinances.  The APO will provide compassionate and attentive care for animals at all times; follow policy and procedure relating to vehicle and equipment inspection and maintenance; provide daily, monthly and annual reports to document activities and other animal care and control duties as necessary.

The Community Support Representative (CSC) is often the first and last impression every visitor to ACCT Philly has. As such, they serve as the tone setters for a customer oriented, warm, and welcoming experience. Serving  as reception for many of ACCT’s visitors and as admissions and reunifications point people, as well as matchmakers for visitors who wish to save homeless animals, the CSCs have an impactful and varied role centered on high quality customer service that focuses on pets and people, together.

The Lead Adoptions Counselor will be primarily responsible for assisting the Senior Adoptions Supervisor in all duties related to the daily operations of the Adoptions Department as assigned, as well as the supervision of all Adoptions Counselors. These responsibilities will vary with the current needs of the Lifesaving and shelter staff, the season of the year, and the individual abilities demonstrated by the employee.

With an average of 6,000 ACCT Philly animals going to rescue partners each year, the role of the Lifesaving Counselor is a crucial one in ensuring as many animals as possible have appropriate, positive outcomes. As the point of contact for our wide network of rescue partners, our Lifesaving Counselor leverages their knowledge of our animals and the needs of our partners to maximize the benefits of these relationships. They are equal parts animal expert and logistics whiz. Relying heavily on interpersonal interactions, the Lifesaving Counselor is highly organized and a great communicator.

The Medical Supervisor is one of the primary positions responsible for monitoring, directing, examining and administering medical services and treatments to the shelter’s many animals.

The Medical Nurse is one of the primary positions responsible for monitoring, examining and administering medical treatments to the shelter’s many animals. This position works alongside a team of other Medical Nurses, managers and veterinarians to ensure timely and humane care for thousands of animals every year of various species, stages of health, and dispositions in both the clinic and the shelter setting.
